Women’s Over 30s Approved as a Just Play Centre

Our women’s over 30s football team started up just a few months ago in November last year - our first women’s team as a club.

In March this year they played their first friendly with a second one played just last week. And the sessions are now approved as an FA Just Play Centre which meant the group received some training equipment and materials as well as promotion by the FA of the sessions on its website.

The training sessions run every Tuesday at 8pm. It’s an informal session where the group generally plays small sided games and it’s beginner friendly too.

Stacey MacNaught, who established the group, says:

“Lots of this group had never ever played before starting in November last year. And for those who had, it had been the best part of 20 years since many of us last laced up our football boots. So it’s not about ability level at all. It’s about having fun, getting fitter and just enjoying football with a really great group of women. It really just feels like a fun kick around with your mates a lot of the time!”

Becky, who joined when the group first got started in November, adds:

“It’s so much fun. You get to use all that pent up weekly angst and channel it into kicking a ball - and there’s an ace mix of women coming together who spend an hour a week laughing. I didn’t know how much I needed football in my life until I joined this gang.”

The team is not in any leagues or formal competitions but has recently played friendlies against a recreational team in Rochdale and a Sublime Athletic team in Oldham.
